Hair-pulling/Skin-picking

Put a Stop to Compulsive
Hair-pulling and Skin-picking

Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) are a category of behaviors including compulsive hair pulling (trichotillomania) and skin picking (dermatillomania).

BFRBs are repetitive self-grooming behaviors in which pulling, picking, biting, scratching, or scraping of the hair, nails, or skin result in damage to the body or noticeable hair loss. Although many people who pull their hair or pick their skin desperately want to stop, some may find it difficult or impossible to stop without help.

Hair pulling and skin picking can have a significant impact on your life. Many struggle with shame, fear of being misunderstood, feelings of isolation, and strained social relationships, among other problems.

The good news is that therapy with a qualified specialist can help you eliminate these behaviors

At Anxiety Solutions of Denver, we are among the few therapists in Denver who specialize in treating BFRBs in adults, children, and teens. We practice a unique type of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), which research has shown to be effective in treating BFRBs and alleviating the emotional and social impact associated with this problem.

The Trichotillomania Learning Center (TLC), the nation’s leading organization devoted to ending the suffering caused by hair pulling and skin picking, recommends Habit Reversal Training (HRT) and the Comprehensive Behavioral Model (ComB), which are types of CBT specifically designed to treat BFRBs. Dr. Claire Dean Sinclair and Dr. Kim Mathewson specialize in utilizing these treatments to help people with BFRB’s.

Dr. Mathewson graduated from the Trichotillomania Learning Center’s Professional Training Institute focusing on CBT-Based Treatment for Trichotillomania & Skin Picking Disorders.

Our specialized therapy for BFRBs can help you:
